Dr Simon Bar-Meir is currently Chairman of Medicine and Director of the Department of Gastroenterology at the Chaim Sheba Medical Center in Israel.
Dr Bar-Meir attended the Hebrew University Hadassah Medical School in Jerusalem, where he completed Medicine in 1968. He then attended Beilinson Medical Center in Israel, where he gained his training in Internal Medicine, and Yale University, where he completed 2-year fellowship in Hepatology. He had also a second fellowship in Gastroenterology at the Medical College of Wisconsin in the USA. Dr Bar-Meir followed this with a faculty position in Gastroenterology at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
In 1978, Dr Bar-Meir was appointed as a senior physician in the Department of Gastroenterology at Ichilov Medical Center, and 4 years later as the Director of Gastroenterology at Wolfson Medical Center in Israel.
He is a full professor at Sackler School of Medicine at Tel Aviv University and served as an associate Dean of the Medical School.
Dr Bar-Meir's particular research interests are endoscopic simulators, new endoscopic techniques, including capsule endoscopy and IBD.
He is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association and the Israeli Societies for Gastroenterology and Hepatology. He has published about 150 manuscripts in peer-review journals, and written chapters in books related to the use of simulators in teaching endoscopy.
