Douglas A. Howell, M.D., Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine, University of Vermont College of Medicine at the Division of Gastroenterology, Maine Medical Center, Portland, Maine, is widely known for his superb ERCP expertise and superior training methods.
A widely published and sought-after speaker, Dr. Howell has made significant contributions to the continuing medical education of endoscopists through his national and international lectures. He is noted for many innovations in device and endoscope development.
After completing his postgraduate training, Dr. Howell joined Maine Medical Center in 1978 and over the past 24 years has served in varying capacities, including Director of the Pancreaticobiliary Center, Chief of Interventional Endoscopy, Director Advanced Interventional Fellowship Training, and Acting Chief, Division of Gastroenterology. He has also served as President and served on the Board of Directors for the New England Endoscopy Society. He was awarded the prestigious Master Endoscopist Award as Master Endoscopist from the American Society of Gastroenterology in 2002.
