Dr Shiv Sarin is currently Head of the Department of Gastroenterology, GB Pant Hospital, New Delhi, India.

Dr Sarin began his medical training at Rajasthan University, Jaipur, India. He gained his MD in General Medicine and Therapeutics in 1978. In 1981, Dr Sarin completed a DM in Gastroenterology at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi.

In 1983, Dr Sarin became an Assistant Professor in Gastroenterology at the GB Pant Hospital, New Delhi, he was promoted to Associate Professor in 1987, and Professor in 1991. Dr Sarin took up his position as Head of Department in 1997.

Dr Sarin is a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology, the Indian Academy of Sciences, and the Indian College of Physicians. He is also a member of a number of professional organizations, including the International Association for Study of Liver (IASL), the American Association for the Study of the Liver (AASLD), and the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA).

Dr Sarin has had over 190 research papers published in international journals. He been on the editorial board of several publications, and has edited a number of books

Dr Sarin's research interests include management of chronic liver diseases with special to the etiology and the complication of portal hypertension.
