One system, the Bard Memotherm Endoscopic Biliary Stent is pre-loaded on a delivery catheter and is claimed to have a ‘uniquely flexible' design.
The stent, made by CR Bard of Murray Hill, New Jersey, USA, is made from nitinol and expands in response to body temperature.
Meanwhile the RX Herculink Plus Biliary Stent System is said to have a ‘more robust new design' with nine crests per ring and multiple rings per stent.

The system is designed to allow physicians to perform the procedure through a 6F or 7F guiding catheter to reduce the puncture site, its developers say.
The system, manufactured by the Guidant Corporation, of Indianopolis, USA, uses a Rapid Exchange platform to enable it to be used by a single physician operator.
The US Food and Drug Administration have approved both systems for sale.
