The website went live on 23rd July 2000 and mandatory registration for parts of the site began on 8th August.
Between 8th and 31st August, 1537 people registered as users of GastroHep.com - mostly informed about the site by emails from their friends. The main advertising promotion of the site starts in September 2000, with a strong presence of GastroHep.com at the important scientific meetings during the fall.
The winner of the prize for August - Dr Peter Devitt, a surgeon from Royal Adelaide Hospital, Australia - was chosen at random from the database in Oxford. He registered with GastroHep.com on 22 August, having heard about the website via an advertising flyer. He has returned to the site on two occasions, finding the critiques and slides to be particularly interesting and useful. "The site is well laid out, attractive and easy to travel through. The material is current, highly relevant and focussed on the practicing clinician. I like the informality. As a teacher, I particularly go for the up-to-date critiques and the slides. For the busy clinician, the convenience of being able to dip into the summaries of current articles is a real bonus."
The next draw for a Palm Pilot vx will be amongst people who register with GastroHep.com in September 2000, plus one each to be given away as raffle pizes at the BSL stand at the ACG in New York (18-19 Oct 2000), and at the UEGW in Brussels (25-30 Nov 2000).
