They assessed 179,398 patients who were hospitalized for alcoholism, between 1970 and 1994.
The team was unable to identify any excess risk for colorectal cancers, either overall or at any anatomical subsite.
Dr Ye’s team concluded, “Our findings challenge the hypothesis that alcohol intake is a risk factor for cancer of the large bowel”.
