A multidisciplinary panel of 18 physicians and 3 non-physicians from eight countries (Sweden, UK, Argentina, Australia, Italy, Finland, Norway and the USA) reviewed the literature on diagnosis and management of adult celiac disease.
Dr Jonas Ludvigsson and colleagues present the recommendations of the British Society of Gastroenterology.
The team explored areas of controversies through phone meetings and web surveys.
The team reported that 9 working groups examined the following various areas of celiac disease diagnosis and management, included classification, genetics and immunology, diagnostics, serology and endoscopy, follow-up, gluten-free diet, refractory celiac disease and malignancies, quality of life, novel treatments, patient support, and screening for celiac disease.
Dr Ludvigsson's team concludes, "We reviewed and present the recommendations for the diagnosis and management of adult celiac disease in the United Kingdom."
