This type of hernia may occur just above or below the umbilicus. It is commonly seen in patients with obesity or ascites. This hernia usually contains omentum and may contain portions of transverse colon, small intestine, or both. Smaller para-umbilical hernias are often associated with ascites, particularly in patients with cirrhosis.
