Amoebic liver abscess.
This patient is undergoing percutaneous aspiration of a large amoebic liver abscess. The reddish brown appearance of the pus obtained has been likened to anchovy sauce, and the colour contrasts with the yellow green appearance of pus in bacterial liver abscess. Percutaneous aspiration is rarely performed nowadays, because drugs such as Metronidazole are effective in treatment.
