Graft-versus-host disease of the tongue.This complication of bone marrow transplantation is a progressive and often fatal wasting disease with widespread damage particularly to the skin, liver, gut and lymphoid system. It is mediated by immune competent cells within the bone marrow graft. There is full-thickness mucosal involvement of the tongue. Superimposed bacterial and fungal infections are common.
