Carcinoma of the ascending colon.
A 55-year old woman admitted with small bowel obstruction. The obstruction
initially resolved and then settled in again five days later. The patient had
a haemoglobin of 105 g/L and a colonoscopy revealed a circumferential lesion in the proximal ascending colon. She underwent a right hemicolectomy.
The photograph shows the surgeon holding the partially opened specimen. The ascending colon has been opened, showing the circumferential tumor.
