The main duct has been filled to the tail and fine side branches are demonstrated. Normally the duct tapers gradually to the tail where a bifurcation is commonly seen. The maximum diameter is less than 5mm, increasing slightly with age. The course of the duct is usually sigmoid or pistol-shaped but little significance is attached to minor variations
