A 76-year old woman who underwent an endoscopy and argon beam coagulation
of a water melon stomach. At the end of the procedure, the endoscopist noticed that the patient was rather unwell and had gross surgical emphysema. On withdrawal of the scope, there was a large mucosal laceration in the fundus of the stomach.
This photograph was taken six hours after the perforation and some of the
periorbital surgical emphysema is still visible. There was gross surgical emphysema in the neck. The Chest X-ray shows widespread emphysema.
