Familial adenomatous polyposis(FAP): colonic appearances.
Polyps in this condition show great variations in size, shape, density and distribution. Fig. 3.116 demonstrates the histopathological appearances of microadenomata. Routine colonoscopy underestimates the number of polyps in FAP. Dye spraying of the mucosa, for example with methylene blue or indigocarmine, enhances the visibility of small polyps (Fig. 3.120).
