Large bowel mucosa: normal appearances.
The normal mucosa appears pink and smooth. Sometimes there is a suggestion of a mosaic pattern (Fig. 3.6). This is caused by reflections from the mucosal crypts which are more apparent when dye spraying has been employed (Fig. 3.7). The histological appearances of normal large bowel mucosa, other than caecal and rectal, appear in Fig. 3.9).
