Rubber band ligation of oesophageal varices.
Multiband ligation devices enable multiple bands to be preloaded on the barrel of the device which attaches to the end of the forward viewing endoscope, from which they are fired seriatim onto the varices. The technique involves aspirating a varix deeply into the end of the barrel. Firing releases a band onto the varix which then retracts from the barrel.
