Apthous ulcers.These can occur anywhere in the oral cavity and are more common in women than in men. Although they usually occur in isolation, their presence may be associated with poor dental hygiene or deficiency of iron, B12 and/or folic acid. Associated underlying diseases include inflammatory bowel disease, celiac disease or Behcet's syndrome.
