Malignant diseases

Carcinoma of the sigmoid colon.
A 63-year-old woman who presented with a history of rectal bleeding. Investigations revealed an ulcerating adenocarcinoma of the sigmoid colon. She underwent a sigmoid colectomy. The opened specimen shows a malignant ulcer with raised rolled edges. There are several thrombosed vessels in the base of the ulcer.
