Giant sigmoid diverticulum.
A 67-year-old man with a several month history of lower abdominal pain and
diarrhoea. A colonoscopy was normal apart from a few scattered
diverticulae. A barium enema showed a giant sigmoid diverticulum. The plain abdominal X-ray showed an air-filled mass in the pelvis. This CT scan shows the large air-filled structure in the pelvis, which communicates with the sigmoid colon. The patient underwent a sigmoid colectomy.
