Haemochromatosis. An unenhanced spiral CT of the liver in a 66-year-old female patient with a serum ferritin greater than 4000µg/l (normal µ 12-200µg/l). A liver biopsy showed grade 4 iron deposition. The liver is markedly increased in attenuation, varying between 90 and 100HU (normal µ 50-70HU). A simple cyst is also present within the liver with HU µ4. The differential diagnosis of increased liver attenuation on CT includes Wilson's disease, amiodarone therapy and glycogen-storage disease.
