The inferior margin of the normal liver (arrows) is visible on this control film for an intravenous pyelogram examination in a patient with no clinical evidence of liver disease. The inferior margin is a little lower than usual, but it emphasizes the difficulty in trying to assess liver size by plain radiography. This is much more accurately done by cross-sectional imaging.
