Mallory-Weiss tear with exposed artery.
A 44-year-old female was admitted with a fresh hematemesis and was found
to be tachycardic with a heart rate of 120/min. She had been suffering from
diarrhea and vomiting thought to be due to gastroenteritis. Endoscopy
showed a long Mallory-Weiss tear with an exposed artery. Although bleeding
from tears may be trivial, they can occasionally precipitate arterial
hemorrhage.
