Lichen planus.The cutaneous eruption typically occurs on the flexor surfaces of the arms, in the lumbar region or around the ankles. The typical lesion is a shiny flat-topped papule sometimes described as violaceous in color. Itching can be severe. Treatment is usually with topical corticosteroid creams, but systemic corticosteroids are used when there is esophageal or gastric involvement.
