Hydatid cysts in liver.
A 40-year-old woman who presented with a three-week history of constant right upper quadrant pain. The ultrasound shows a cystic lesion in the liver with daughter cysts attached to the lining of the main cyst. The cyst is shown at operation, sited immediately above the gallbladder. This cyst and two others were removed. The pathological specimen shows the opened main cyst, with numerous small cysts attached. The patient had spent 18 months working in areas of the world where Echinococcus granulosis is endemic (Turkey and China).
