Celiac disease.An SBE was performed to confirm or exclude malignancy in a 66-year-old male patient with proved coeliac disease, with a good initial response to gluten-free diet, but recent relapse. No neoplasm was found. However, there is a reduced number of proximal jejunal folds, the jejunal fold thickness is increased in keeping with edema, there is an increased number of ileal folds (more than four per 2.5cm) and there is an increased thickness of ileal folds (greater than 1mm).
