Epstein-Barr gastritis
A 43 -year-old Bangladeshi male presented with chronic upper abdominal
pain of one year duration. He tried a course of proton pump inhibitors
without improvement. Upper GIT endoscopy was done and revealed multiple
linear antral ulcers arranged radially “sunflower ulcers”. Six biopsy specimens were taken for histological examination. Histopathological examination of the biopsy specimens revealed chronic active follicular gastritis, negative for Helicobacter pylori, negative for intestinal metaplasia, Positive for Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), negative for herpes simplex virus and negative for cytomegalovirus. Findings were confirmed by further
immune-histochemichal staining for EBV.
