Obstruction of the common bile duct by a stone.This is an autopsy specimen with the common bile duct on the right, the liver on the left and the gallbladder bottom left. The common bile duct is dilated and there is a dark stone impacted at the extreme right of the duct. The cut surface of the liver shows multiple spaces left by dilated intra-hepatic ducts and abscesses.
