This chronic inflammatory disorder is concentrated in the dermal blood vessel walls and is often associated with polymyositis. Patients may have underlying malignant disease. The patient shown here was found to have pancreatic carcinoma and liver metastases. Treatment with prednisolone and azathioprine led to prolonged remission of both dermatomyositis and polymyositis.
