Prolapsed hemorrhoids.Moderate or large hemorrhoids commonly prolapse on defaecation and reduce spontaneously, or may be replaced manually by the patient. Large hemorrhoids may remain persistently prolapsed outside the anal canal. This figure is a severe example of prolapsed hemorrhoids with superficial ulceration and mucosal congestion. Recurrent or permanent prolapse may be an indication for hemorrhoidectomy.
