Rectal prolapse.Rectal prolapse may be complete or incomplete. In this example part of the rectum mucosa has prolapsed a few inches from the anal verge. Partial mucosal prolapse is often associated with hemorrhoids. Treatment of partial prolapse in adults may include a submucosal sclerosant injection, or hemorrhoidectomy with excision of the redundant mucosa. Constipation may require therapy with laxatives or bulking agents.
